<p><strong>The gimlet is a classic cocktail that deserves more attention!</strong> Made with gin, lime juice and sweetened with simple syrup, it comes from the sour family of cocktails (my specialty). Save the elaborate cocktails with unrecognizable ingredients for ordering at fancy bars&mdash;a simple, citrusy, not-too-sweet cocktail at home is one of life&rsquo;s simple pleasures. </p>

<p>The gimlet is light and bright, like a more casual version of a <a href="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/martini-recipe/">martini</a> that you can sip slowly on a porch. I love a gimlet in the spring or summer&mdash;they&rsquo;re fresh and just right. If you enjoy ordering a good gin cocktail or a <a href="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/fresh-margaritas/">margarita made with real lime juice</a>, you will love a homemade gimlet. </p>

<p></p>

<p><strong>Have you ever heard of a French Blond cocktail?</strong> Me neither, until last week! I read that it&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.usmagazine.com/food/news/kansas-city-restaurant-owner-reveals-taylor-swifts-favorite-cocktail/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Taylor Swift&rsquo;s favorite cocktail</a> after she recently requested it at a local Kansas City restaurant called <a href="https://ryekc.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rye</a>. Once I saw the ingredients&mdash;grapefruit, gin, Lillet and elderflower, I knew I had to try it. It&rsquo;s fantastic. The cocktail is well-balanced, citrusy and floral, not too strong and not too sweet.</p>

<p><strong>I&rsquo;m generally completely oblivious to both pop culture and football,</strong> to the point that when my husband came home from a charity event last year and told me he was on a team with Travis Kelce, I said, &ldquo;Who is that?&rdquo; But the funniest thing has happened now that Taylor is dating Travis. Suddenly, I&rsquo;m fascinated by a couple I&rsquo;ve never met, I&rsquo;m paying attention to football, and I&rsquo;m&nbsp;wondering, who am I? Am I a Swiftie now?</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img decoding="async" width="1456" height="1001" data-pin-nopin="nopin" data-pin-url="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/french-blond-cocktail/?tp_image_id=41751" src="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2024/01/french-blond-cocktail-ingredients.jpg" alt="French blond cocktail ingredients" class="wp-image-41751" srcset="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2024/01/french-blond-cocktail-ingredients.jpg 1456w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2024/01/french-blond-cocktail-ingredients-400x275.jpg 400w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2024/01/french-blond-cocktail-ingredients-1100x756.jpg 1100w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2024/01/french-blond-cocktail-ingredients-550x378.jpg 550w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2024/01/french-blond-cocktail-ingredients-270x186.jpg 270w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2024/01/french-blond-cocktail-ingredients-768x528.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1456px) 100vw, 1456px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p><strong>Maybe it&rsquo;s the sheer proximity of it all,</strong> like I&rsquo;ve been to Rye, where Taylor Swift supposedly ordered this cocktail! My friend&rsquo;s mom saw Travis at the Apple Store the other day! My husband said that Travis was friendly and great with kids, and the only rumor I&rsquo;ve heard about Taylor is that she is indeed <em>very</em> nice. Maybe it&rsquo;s because they seem like a great match, so they remind me of when my husband and I started dating.</p>

<p><strong>Maybe it&rsquo;s because I, like all of Taylor&rsquo;s fans, imagine that maybe we could be friends if we met in real life.</strong> How crazy is that? Taylor, we have cold Lillet in the fridge if you guys want to come by for a cocktail. Now I&rsquo;ve really lost my mind. Anyway, go Chiefs!</p>

<p><strong>Do you know Tom Collins? The cocktail?</strong> If not, you&rsquo;ve been missing out. I used to serve Tom Collins way back when I was a bartender, and I believe this classic drink deserves some more attention.</p>

<p><strong>Tom Collins cocktails taste like grown-up lemonade.</strong> They&rsquo;re irresistibly citrusy, fizzy and refreshing, with herbal notes from the gin. While lemonade can be cloying, Tom Collins need not be too sweet&mdash;I like mine with just a splash of simple syrup to round out the flavors.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img decoding="async" width="1100" height="756" data-pin-nopin="nopin" data-pin-url="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/tom-collins-recipe/?tp_image_id=36915" src="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2020/08/tom-collins-ingredients-1.jpg" alt="tom collins ingredients" class="wp-image-36915" srcset="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2020/08/tom-collins-ingredients-1.jpg 1100w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2020/08/tom-collins-ingredients-1-400x275.jpg 400w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2020/08/tom-collins-ingredients-1-550x378.jpg 550w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2020/08/tom-collins-ingredients-1-270x186.jpg 270w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2020/08/tom-collins-ingredients-1-768x528.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1100px) 100vw, 1100px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p>If you enjoy a cold <a href="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/classic-french-75-cocktail-recipe/">French 75</a> or <a href="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/bees-knees-cocktail-recipe/">Bee&rsquo;s Knees</a>, you&rsquo;ll definitely enjoy a Tom Collins. They all share a similar flavor profile. Tom Collins are the perfect cocktails for hot summer afternoons, since they&rsquo;re served over ice and full of hydrating club soda. I&rsquo;ll always choose a Tom Collins over a gin and tonic.</p>

<p>To make a Tom Collins from scratch, you&rsquo;ll need a few basic ingredients (gin, lemons, club soda, and sugar or honey), a cocktail shaker and plenty of ice. Add a fancy cocktail cherry if you really want to do it right. Cheers!</p>

<p></p>

<p><strong>When life gives you lemons&hellip; make a cocktail.</strong> How about that? My friends and I have been sending each other instructional videos on how to make our favorite cocktails for happy hour.</p>

<p>I&rsquo;ll never be a gin and tonic girl, but I&rsquo;ve been enjoying gin-based drinks as the weather warms up. Gin plays nicely with citrus and fresh herbs, so it seems just right for this time of year.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img decoding="async" width="1100" height="756" data-pin-nopin="nopin" data-pin-url="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/bees-knees-cocktail-recipe/?tp_image_id=36178" src="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2020/04/bees-knees-ingredients.jpg" alt="bee's knees ingredients" class="wp-image-36178" srcset="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2020/04/bees-knees-ingredients.jpg 1100w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2020/04/bees-knees-ingredients-400x275.jpg 400w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2020/04/bees-knees-ingredients-550x378.jpg 550w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2020/04/bees-knees-ingredients-270x186.jpg 270w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2020/04/bees-knees-ingredients-768x528.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1100px) 100vw, 1100px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p>The Bee&rsquo;s Knees is a classic Prohibition-era cocktail made with gin, lemon and honey. It&rsquo;s brightly flavored, lightly sweet, and just an overall delightful drink&mdash;hence the name.</p>

<p>Enjoy one at home on a nice spring day. It tastes even better on a patio or balcony, if you have one. Cheers!</p>

<p><strong>Are you acquainted with the French 75?</strong> The French 75 is a refreshing and citrusy, sparkling gin cocktail that packs a punch. It&rsquo;s perfect for the holidays and other celebratory occasions. The French 75 is the answer any time a bubbly cocktail is in order!</p>

<p>French 75&rsquo;s are made with a standard pour of gin <em>and</em> topped with Champagne, so it&rsquo;s a strong drink in a sparkling dress. In fact, it&rsquo;s named after the French 75-mm field gun, which was <a href="https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2011/03/french-75-cocktial-gin-champagne-lemon.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">commonly used in World War I</a>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img decoding="async" width="1100" height="756" data-pin-nopin="nopin" data-pin-url="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/classic-french-75-cocktail-recipe/?tp_image_id=27280" src="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2017/12/honey-simple-syrup.jpg" alt="honey simple syrup" class="wp-image-27280" srcset="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2017/12/honey-simple-syrup.jpg 1100w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2017/12/honey-simple-syrup-400x275.jpg 400w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2017/12/honey-simple-syrup-550x378.jpg 550w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2017/12/honey-simple-syrup-270x186.jpg 270w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2017/12/honey-simple-syrup-768x528.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1100px) 100vw, 1100px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p><strong>Here&rsquo;s my only spin on this classic cocktail:</strong> I used honey instead of sugar in the simple syrup. The light honey flavor plays beautifully with fresh lemon and herbal gin. That said, you can absolutely keep the the original recipe and use sugar if you&rsquo;d prefer. My recipe works either way!</p>

<p><strong>I&rsquo;m sharing this refreshing cocktail </strong>hoping that you&rsquo;ll savor this warm weather with me. Let&rsquo;s sit on the patio and enjoy a cool cucumber drink. There&rsquo;s still plenty of time for pumpkin spice everything.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img decoding="async" width="1100" height="756" data-pin-nopin="nopin" data-pin-url="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/cucumber-elderflower-gimlet/?tp_image_id=26350" src="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2017/09/cocktail-ingredients.jpg" alt="cocktail ingredients" class="wp-image-26350" srcset="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2017/09/cocktail-ingredients.jpg 1100w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2017/09/cocktail-ingredients-400x275.jpg 400w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2017/09/cocktail-ingredients-550x378.jpg 550w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2017/09/cocktail-ingredients-270x186.jpg 270w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2017/09/cocktail-ingredients-768x528.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1100px) 100vw, 1100px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p><strong>What is a <a href="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/gimlet-cocktail/">gimlet</a>, you ask?</strong> It&rsquo;s like a <a href="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/martini-recipe/">martini</a>, but with lime juice instead of vermouth and a splash of sweetener.</p>

<p>This version has been my sipper of choice lately. It was inspired by an elderflower martini that I enjoyed with <a href="https://saltedplains.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tessa</a> in Minneapolis. It&rsquo;s made with cucumber-y Hendrick&rsquo;s gin, St-Germain elderflower liqueur, fresh lime juice and cucumber.</p>

<p>Technically, you could call this gimlet an Eastside cocktail (thanks to the cucumber) or a French gimlet (thanks to the St-Germain) or more appropriately, an Eastside-French gimlet hybrid. Distinctions aside, it&rsquo;s just delicious.</p>

Think of these French 75&rsquo;s as an extra boozy, extra bright version of <a href="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/best-mimosa-recipe/" rel="">classic orange mimosas</a>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img decoding="async" width="1100" height="756" data-pin-nopin="nopin" data-pin-url="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/clementine-french-75-recipe/?tp_image_id=19338" src="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2016/02/clementine-juice-and-gin.jpg" alt="clementine juice and gin" class="wp-image-19338" srcset="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2016/02/clementine-juice-and-gin.jpg 1100w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2016/02/clementine-juice-and-gin-400x275.jpg 400w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2016/02/clementine-juice-and-gin-550x378.jpg 550w" sizes="(max-width: 1100px) 100vw, 1100px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p>Instead of a <a href="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/classic-french-75-cocktail-recipe/">traditional French 75</a> with lemon juice, I thought it would be fun to use clementines, which are in season now. I learned that clementines are really easy to juice with a <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002XOG4B0/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B002XOG4B0&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=cooandkat-20&amp;linkId=GXK3F4TVNAATHQ5L" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">handheld lemon juicer</a>. You&rsquo;ll need a few clementines per drink, so if you&rsquo;re trying to polish off one of those big bags of them, these cocktails (or <a href="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/clementine-sunshine-smoothie/">this smoothie</a>) will do the trick!</p>

I can attest that these strong, brunch-appropriate cocktails go great with <a href="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/butternut-squash-frittata-with-fried-sage/">my butternut frittata</a>.</p>

<p>These cocktails are a twist on the <a href="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/classic-french-75-cocktail-recipe/">classic French 75 cocktail</a>, which is made with gin, lemon, sugar and Champagne.</p>

<p>I tasted this cocktail at Cafe Flora in Seattle a couple of months ago. I was so excited to eat there since my friend had recommended the restaurant to me a couple of years ago. My brother was driving, so I ordered one of these while we waited for our vegetarian brunch to arrive and I marveled at the fiery red trees outside. Needless to say, I was a fan and knew I had to recreate these for the blog.</p>

<p>It&rsquo;s no wonder restaurants call these gin and lime numbers by other names, though. &ldquo;Gimlet&rdquo; sounds like &ldquo;piglet&rdquo; and, as such, doesn&rsquo;t sound nearly sexy enough to describe this drink.</p>

<p></p>

<p><strong><a href="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/gimlet-cocktail/">Classic gimlets</a> are composed of gin, lime juice and a touch of sweetener.</strong> Something magical happens when these basic ingredients are shaken with ice and strained into a martini glass.</p>

<p>I muddled cucumber and mint into this gimlet to make it extra enticing. Technically, you could call this cocktail an Eastside (thanks to the cucumber),&nbsp; a Southside (thanks to the mint), or more accurately, an Eastside-Southside hybrid. Anyway, let&rsquo;s make one.</p>

<p>Memorial Day weekend snuck up on me again. Do you all have big plans? I hope so. I&rsquo;m imagining that you will be gallivanting around a lake, perhaps sipping cocktails on a yacht or at minimum, sipping clinking drinks on a patio whilst rocking a pair of white skinny jeans.</p>

<p>Maybe I can accomplish the latter, but I&rsquo;ll probably spend most of the weekend working, as usual. I have some ambitious blog projects in the works that I can&rsquo;t wait to share with you all.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter"><img decoding="async" width="550" height="378" data-pin-nopin="nopin" data-pin-url="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/the-bootleg-cocktail/?tp_image_id=11574" src="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2014/05/lemons-limes-and-agave-nectar.jpg" alt="lemons, limes and agave nectar" class="wp-image-11574" srcset="https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2014/05/lemons-limes-and-agave-nectar.jpg 550w, https://jyotirecipe.pages.dev/images/2014/05/lemons-limes-and-agave-nectar-400x275.jpg 400w" sizes="(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p>This &ldquo;bootleg cocktail&rdquo; will definitely be my summer drink and I hope it becomes yours. I discovered the bootleg at <a href="https://www.britspub.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Brit&rsquo;s Pub</a> in Minneapolis when I went out for an after-dinner drink with <a href="https://www.wellplated.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Erin</a> and <a href="https://greensnchocolate.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Taylor</a>. It was a chilly spring night, but I couldn&rsquo;t resist the bar&rsquo;s signature drink, which was a summery-sounding lemon and mint drink. I ordered mine with bourbon for some warmth and, on first sip, knew that I had to recreate it on the blog.</p>
